• How to: Free HP TouchPad case or a year of free accidental damage coverage.

This how to is for those who do not have a case or has already incurred some sort of damage to their HP TouchPad. This information can be used freely but we do not condone lying to HP. This method can give you a free HP TouchPad case, which will prevent your HP TouchPad from the well documented problem, where cracks develop on the TouchPad sides. The cracks around the TouchPad are a known issue, and if you do not have a case, here is the time to get it. Otherwise, if they offer you a case, there is no point of a case if the TouchPad is already cracked. If your TouchPad is already cracked, you can opt in for the TouchPad Accidental Coverage plan, which will repair or replace your TouchPad that has the known symptoms.

Step 1: Call 877-426-3777 - this is the direct US HP/Palm support helpline and wait time is usually under 5 minutes.

Step 2: Give the rep all the info he asks for (he'll ask for the serial number of the touchpad etc, have it and your webos account e-mail address handy).

Step 3: Tell the rep that you have heard of cracks developing around the HP TouchPad and do not have a case for it. Tell them you know it is a documented problem and you wish to receive some sort of protection against it. You will be offered either one of the two, that will protect you from those cracks.

More details can be found at the original thread. Reply and let us know how it went!

The case will not protect against the cracks, that's well documented also!

It will protect it better of you have one. I think the cracks are from pressure. I have mine with a case for a few weeks no cracks yet.

Thanks for posting this. Mine actually has a crack (I didn't notice it until my TP survived a drop onto a concrete floor) so this is all kinds of win.

Denied! "Danny" says I can go ahead an PURCHASE a case, but they do not give out free cases. I tried my best, but to no avail. Fortunately I did not give out any of my info, so when I call back, they do not have this on file, lol.

On the phone right now. They don't seem so willing. If there was no crack, there is nothing to be done. Then I said "yes, there is a small crack". They transferred me to a specialist who said they're out of cases, and offered to let me send the TP back in. I declined, naturally.

no more cases being offered, now they will simply "repair" it under the 1 year support contract...ask that you send it in (they provide shipping) and 7-10 days later they will send it back...or you can do a hot swap, where they send you one and you send the old one back, but they want to charge you $59 for the service....I said that was unacceptable and they waived the fee, after I had it escalated 2 levels.
