• HP CEO: webOS announcement within two weeks

HP CEO Meg Whitman has stated webOS' fate will be delivered within two weeks. In most recent interview by french reporters, Meg Whitman has been quoted "We should announce our decision in the next two weeks. This is not an easy decision, because we have a team of 600 people which is in limbo. We need to have another operating system."

Ever since HP purchased webOS from Palm back in 2010, much was promised but nothing was quite delivered on HP's end. Although webOS is still probably the 2nd most owned tablet on the market behind the giant iPad, HP is still considering sale of webOS or open source of the underdog OS. HP somehow gives us a lack of confidence after all, we thought we were going to get webOS watches, webOS printers, webOS PCs, and especially webOS toasters .

Lets hope HP does right by the fateful webOS community!

I love reading about news about webos,I love this OS, do not want to see it die, but the last two topic posted on the home page of this website about webos seemed have been ignored by 99.9% of the users of this website, app and games for the touchpad cost anywhere from 99 cents to 5 dollars each, I support DEV, buying what I like.

only two posts about the new update that might arrive soon, is very shocking

sad 98% of the people who are member of this site only care about everything free, webos needs support from its users if it is to stay alive, a non working app or game posted to this website gets more conversation than what might may or will happen with the future of the webos

this will contribute to the death of the os

      Open Source!
      48 DECEMBER 9, 2011 BY FRED PATTON
Well, you’ve been waiting for the big webOS announcement, and today we’ve made it. This morning, HP announced that webOS will be going open source with the resources of HP behind it. The Developer Relations team is very excited by this announcement and what it means for the future of webOS, and for you, our developer community.
With this announcement, Meg Whitman has reiterated HP’s commitment to webOS as a cloud-connected, scalable platform, while opening up new possibilities for platform expansion and improvement. She has also committed HP to a course of continued improvement to webOS, which means we’re in it for the long haul. Finally, we are committed to good, transparent and inclusive governance to avoid fragmentation of the platform.
Here in Developer Relations, we have the deepest appreciation for you, our developer community. You have helped to bring this announcement about through your passion and commitment, through periods of both promise and uncertainty.
We are committed to you as not only contributors to our app ecosystem, but now to webOS itself. We recognize that there’s a larger open source community of which we will now be a part, and are excited by the future now open to us.
We also know you’ll have a lot of questions, and we don’t have all the answers right now. We will keep you up-to-date on the latest developments, both in the forums and here on the developer blog.
We hope you’ll join us for the next leg of this journey!
