My TP is only a few months old and as been in a leather case since day one. I removed it today and discovered one crack on the left side speaker and another by the headphone jack. Is there a way to have it repaired?

Oh crap this cracking business sounds like a real pain. I've personally felt that it's been sturdy so far, but now I've got my doubts. Since it does get considerably hot when charging.

I called the number to get a replacement micro usb cable, and you won't believe what happened. I clearly stated to the lady "Micro USB Cable", but instead I received an AC wall adapter that didn't even include the electrical prongs!

Just happened to notice something online about this casing crack today for the first time (I know, where have I been...) and pulled mine out and sure enough, there's a crack by the left speaker. Not sure what to do about it, as it doesn't seem to be affecting the TP. Wouldn't have even noticed it had I not read about the problem and then taken a look since the HP Folio case mostly obscures the crack.
Is it worth sending it in for a repair? Do these cracks seem to worsen over time? Hate to bother with it if it's something I wouldn't have even noticed. Besides, if it's a design defect, which is what it sounds like, won't the repaired/refurbed one wind up with the same problem?
What to do, what to do......

I had this issue with my first 32GB touchpad, I was using it as an alarm and without a case. Sent it in after 2 months of use.
When I received my new unit I purchased the actual hp case for it on liquidation from staples, and used external speakers for my alarm clock. Had this one ever since and not a single sign of crack development.
I would guess it depends on the amount of speaker usage you use especially when hot as the material is more mailable. When I had it as an alarm it was on the touchstone charger and was quite warm, it's possible the warmth + bass combination made it far worse.
Just my two cents.

It's a possible reason, but in reading other forums that have had larger samplings of people that have had this cracking problem, I've reached the conclusion its a design flaw that is very difficult to predict. People with and without cases have had it. People using their speakers in a variety of ways have had it. People that only use their TP at home, and others that take it out and about often have had it. There seems to be no predicting it.
At this point I think I might just leave it, and not even send it back to HP for repair. HP doesn't have any new ones left to replace them with, and it seems like large numbers of people that have had them repaired, wind up with new cracks in the case not long after the repair. This was part of the potential downside of buying a product that was being discontinued -- no new product to replace defective product with.
Oh well!
