Never mind guys. I was able to download it from http://get.preware.org/. (the 1st link, the EXE file). Very simple!

I had to update Java on my PC. Then I had to shutdown/reboot both my PC and my touchpad for WebOS Quick Install to work. After the automatic driver update, it only took about 20 seconds to install Preware.

One question though, I tried to use a generic USB cable from my PC to my TouchPad. That didn't work.
I had to use the cable that came with the TouchPad. That cable brought up the USB/Cancel mode box on the touchpad. I thought that was a bit weird.
Anyone know where I can get a TouchPad compatible USB cable? Cheap.

Thanks to all the posters here for all of the help and tips.

    Ok - there's the problem I'm having:
    • TouchPad is in Developer mode.
    • It is currently charging (NOT in USB)
    • I have downloaded Quick Install.
    • HERE is the problem - open Quick Install from where? My PC? I have Vista, but it says it won't allow me to open it (even using 7-zip)..
    • So not sure what to do now?

Thanks in advance for your patience.

    If I remember correctly:

1- Touchpad must be connected to your PC in DEV mode
2- Touchpad must be connected in 'Just Charge' mode.
3- You run the "EXE" file
4- On the "PrewareInstaller-1.5.0", you click on "Install Preware"
5- You restart your Touchpad and it should be there.

    I hope I didn't miss anything.

Is there any difference between logging into developer mode with the ways you mentioned above and simply using the developer mode app under the launcher?

HELP!! I just can't get it to install properly.

I'm using a Windows 7 (64-bit) PC, and am unable to run any of the ".jar" files. My TP is running v3.0.2 software.

I have carried out the following:
    1. Put Touchpad into Developer Mode
    2. Connected it to PC, and selected "Cancel" rather than "USB" mode
    3. The first time I connected the TP, it installed device drivers but could nto find any Novacom drivers.
    4. After a bit of searching I found a set of Novacom drivers here (http://forums.precentral.net/webos-i...installer.html) which seemed to install fine. My TP now seems to be connected OK.
    5. I updated Java on my PC (version 6, update 27)
    6. I downloaded and ran PrewareInstaller.exe v1.5.0. It ran OK and indicated that Preware was now installed, but there are no new icons for it either on my PC or on the TP.
    7. I downloaded and tried to run WebOSQuickInstall-v431.jar. Everytime I selected it to run, it opened the Nokia OVI suite on my PC (as I have a Nokia N97 phone).
    8. I tried to run WebOSQuickInstall by selecting it from my download list, and manually associating it with the Java application in my C:\Windows folder. A Command window (blank) opened for a few seconds, but nothing much else appeared to happen either on my PC or on the TP. The TP remains in developer mode connected to my PC.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Doh!

I've just looked on the "Downloads" folder on teh TP and found that Preware was installed (i thought it would appear automatically).

It seems to have installed OK, and it has downloaded a list of available packages.

However it does not seem to want to install the Kindle app that I downloaded from a site using the browser. The file is "com.palm.appkindle_0.10.494660.all.ipk" and it does not appear in the Preware lists. If I select it in the broswer-download tab and try to install it, it comes up with an error "Cannot Open MIME type". How can I associate it with Preware and get it to install? (I remember clicking a button when I first launched Preware when I was asked if I wanted to associate Preware with .ipk files)

    Many thanks for any help

Problem resolved, but not via Preware - it still refuses to install Kindle on my TP.

I have 2 PC's one running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, the other Windows 7 Home 32-bit. I failed to get Preware to install Kindle. So I tried to use WebOSQuickInstall. My 64-bit machine refused to run the application (I opened the program using Java, a blank command window opened, and then closed, and nothing else seemed to happen); however on my 32-bit machine, it installed without problem, and I was able to connect to my TP, and finally, after hours of trying, get Kindle installed.

Kindle seems to be working fine.

    HOWEVER...

Does anybody know how to copy e-books (that I have on my PC in .mobi format and which I have managed to transfer to my wife's Kindle without problem, and which I can also read on the Kindle client on my PC) to the TP? I've tried copying them into the PalmKindle folder on the TP, but it does not find them. I've also tried changing the filetype to .aws (as suggested elsewhere on the web) but that doesn't work either.

So near, but yet so far......

    Quick Install problems

I am trying to load preware through the instructions which have been great. When I plug my device in, quick install reads the hp touchpad in the top right drop down menu. I click install, and it says no applications. What should I do?

I was stupid enough to put a lot of patches to improve this, tweak that and have some problem with my touchpad, so I have use Webos Doctor to reset my touchpad, go through initial set up, set the TP in developer mode, I was not able to run webos quick install, it keep saying need novacom driver and I let it installed, have the confirmation dialog, but not able to recorgnize the touchpad, I have tried to reboot both my computer and my touchpad, could not overcome novacom driver error, I tried this on all 3 of my computers. I need help in getting webos quick install run in order to put preware soft on it to open the door to the whole new world.
    Help
