How to: Overclock the HP TouchPad to 1.5GHz-1.9GHz [GUIDE]

Here are simple steps as always to overclock your TouchPad.

    Apps you will need:
1- Preware: ( How to Install Preware on the TouchPad )
2- Govnah: Govnah can be found in Preware once you have it installed.

After installing both Preware and Govnah(CPU Monitoring Tool)

Install the Overclock patch called "UberKernel":

    1. Open Preware.
    2. Select Available Packages
    3. Select Kernel
    4. Select and Install Uberkernel(TouchPad)

EDIT: Overclocking beyond Uberkernel to 1.5GHz will now take a much more complicated step, which requires installing testing feeds that are unstable. There are tutorials and help within this thread from previous questions.

We do not suggest installing webOS Testing Feeds, as it may require too much work, as well as performance increase is not drastic and noticable.

so this is a custom kernel? would this violate the warranty? or can it be an app that could be run on demand or on startup that would do the dirty business?

Can we go higher? just for shiz n giggles how about 2ghz? what about undervolting? maybe run it down to 1ghz and undervolt to get 20-30% more battery life.

I'd donate $5-10 for an app that was like SETCPU (android) that allowed more control of voltage, ability to force lowest mhz/highest mhz (ie performance mode, super long battery life profile) .

I'd love to see how fast we could get it to go like a super-turbo boost KITT mode where you could turbo boost for a short period of time to 2ghz for show.

This is a custom kernel and as far as i know could void warranty but this is definitely safe. and if anything it reverts back to the 1.2GHz. You install the kernel and use the Govnah App to control when the speed goes up. So technically you can control it that way, turn on the kernel when during hardcore multitasking and turn it off when idling or not doing anything power hungry.

To be honest the speed is not that big of an increase, I think the TouchPad is already pretty good in speed.

so the next question- where's the kernel to flash it back in case you need to submit it for warranty?

You would just remove the UberKernel patch and it will not show up when you bring it to warranty.

Congratulations on the simple and clear instructions...much better than webos-internals IMHO. I was able to follow them but yours are great!

    How to webOS Testing Feeds?
    a) Type 'webos-kernels-testing' without quotes, exactly as is.
    b) Put http://preware.is.awesome.com/ in the URL field.
    c) And leave everything else as is, and reboot the TouchPad.

this is in the preware app. Load preware and then click top left corner for menus. Select manage feeds and go as accordingly.

f15c kernel is up at 1.7ghz ; i get it you add the repo webos-kernels-testing at url http://preware.is.awesome.com (terms most android/ios jailbreakers use) then apply the kernel like a cydia app. then use govnah app to raise the roof to 1.7ghz 2.0 soon?

lol, gonna fry the touchpad. I don't think its really slow though even at 1.2.

in performance mode at 1.7ghz the browsermark is almost as fast 57K iirc my ipad2 does 63K - so maybe if we get 2.1ghz we can equal the ipad2's A5 cpu. but you have to be in performance mode to get close to the ipad2 - can't do it with ioctl ramp-up.

pretty sad huh? A5 decimates the touchpad adreno even when super overclocked.

To be fair, it could just as easily be the performance of the browser affecting it. Running that benchmark on a bunch of different Android browsers will yield vastly different results.

Also: Thank you for the thread! My TouchPad is screaming now.

2- After you restart the TouchPad, Reopen Preware. Go to Kernels and Experimental, and download UberKernel.
3- After UberKernel is installed, open Govnah and select the 1.5GHz option.

Congratulations, your HP TouchPad is now overclocked to 1.5GHz. If you have any questions feel free to post here. Don't forget free apps and games in our webOS applications section.

    UPDATE:

The overclocked kernels can be found in the public Preware feeds without adding testing feeds. Any questions feel free to post below!
    thank you. works great!

I suggest you remove all the kernel patches within Preware. Reboot the device.
Once rebooted, install the Palm Default kernel from Preware, once installed reboot again.
Go back into Preware and try to install only one of those kernels. F15C if you want 1.7GHz, or Uberkernel for 1.5GHz.

I am happy with my 1.5.

No need for 1.7 don't need something going wrong.
