EXACTLY what type of video files are supported?

So I know the MP4, h.263, and h.264 are supported. But if I look at the file properties what EXACTLY am I supposed to look for? I've been trying a bunch of random old files on my computer as well as downloading test files and so far I've only gotten two to work... One is a .m4v file and the other one is an .mp4 file. However I've tried other .mp4 and .m4v files as well and they did not work.

I'm usually decent at figuring this stuff out but I'm pretty confused here. As a test I even downloaded a file which said both MP4 and h.264 in the description and they still didn't work. Am I just having bad luck with bad files... if so what should I do to make sure it's the right kind? For instance I have some digital copies from BluRays that I never redeemed, which ones for those generally work? Do Disney's work, for instance?

Thanks and sorry for sounding like a newbie...

If your looking for a player that supports a larger spectrum of file types maybe check Kalemsoft

I was disappointing with having to re-encode all the movies I wanted to put on the touchpad to .mp4's I found an option listed in the appstore or at Kalemsofts website They have a Media player app, I've had some sound hiccups with some crackling and popping on some of the media I have put to my touchpad but in most part I'm happy with the results The player plays .avi, .flv, .mkv etc...... http://www.kalemsoft.com/

I am hoping they keep up with this player and the improvements (fixing the audio issues occasionally experienced)

    Cheers

Yeah the best (free) convertor I've found so far is Handbrake... takes forever but it's free and works great. I haven't tried Kalemsoft's player yet but I will since we have it right on this site.

My movie files are Audio_TS and Video_TS with the video being .VOB extensions
Kalem didn't seem to want to play those and TouchPlayer is not all that friendly as it seems to start the movie in the middle.
Out of options unless anyoine knows of another player that would run vob files.
