    verizon palm pre plus

hey everybody I'm new here, but I have a palm pre plus with verizon, and a few issues I was wondering if anybody else has experienced. I've noticed that when I use the mobile hotspot app, the phone itself gets very hot to the touch and drains the battery even when it's plugged in to charge. Is this normal? Also, I was wondering why the gps function only works properly with vznavigator, which I am not about to pay the monthly fee for. If I use google maps or any other 3rd party app it only gives me an approximate location.

Thats how Google Maps is, a general location and sometimes its pretty accurate. As for mobile hotspot, it does get hot for my Sprint Palm Pre, I try to keep it in a cool area. Also charging it should keep the battery up but won't really charge because the Palm Pre already consumes so much energy and if your using the Data with Hotspot it will drop the battery drastically.

I'd like to correct you on the GPS issue webOSbuzz, if I may.

The reason why on Verizon the GPS doesn't work well without VZNav relates to the use of A-GPS, Assisted GPS.

A-GPS is a way to get a rough estimate of your location by triangulating with the cell phone carrier's towers, or Verizon's towers. On smartphones, when a GPS request is sent, the A-GPS kicks in right away and gets the user a rough estimate of their location while it waits for the satellites to link up. Thus eliminating the need to wait a while before getting any information at all from the satellites.

A-GPS works fine on Sprint and AT&T but not Verizon because V restricts A-GPS access to all apps except VZNav. This forces all the other apps to either take a long time to get a GPS fix from the satellites or just timeout and not get a fix at all. Verizon is obviously trying to force people to pay for VZNav which I believe is wrong.

    About the hotspot issue:
Whenever I use the mobile hotspot app, I plug the pre in and it charges very slowly but it still charges. Along with that it gets REALLY hot. I only use it for short times. Maybe you were streaming video on the device that was tethered or doing something else that was pretty data intensive.
