Navit - Offline Map application for Touchpad works but it's buggy - Tutorial

Ok so here is the deal, I was looking for an app with offline maps for the Touchpad, so far I did find Navit in Preware.
The thing is that the application does work but it's buggy so I decided to make a post and let people know that u can have offline maps on your device.
Someone might be smarter than me and might get this thing to work 100 %.

Ok so here is what u need:
1.Navit - you can get this in preware , just open preware and search for it.
    2. After Navit is installed you need a map, you can get this map at:
    http://maps3.navit-project.org/
There are 2 options : 1 download the whole thing or by location : N America is like 2 GB if you want all the maps.
Zoom in on the area you are interested in and click select , after selection click get map and you will be prompted to save a file on you computer.
3.After download is complete rename the file to planet
4.Put your Touchpad in USB Mode - and press F3 search and search for Navit - open file location.
    5. In Navit there is a folder called Maps - Copy the planet file in there.
    6. You are done now you have offline maps on your device.
7 Go into Navit and press the upper right corner to get into menu - Click on the town icon and select your town, now you should be able to see the map in Navit.

Like I said this is buggy but someone might come with a solution, that's why I posted.

If you have any questions message me , I will make a tutorial with pictures if there are any problems.
Not a good guide writer but I hope you get the basics

Thanks for the effort in laying out the proper steps to set this up. I couldn't figure it out earlier after installing from preware...sat there staring at a blank screen. I hope someone figures out how to make the TP work properly with external GPS devices either via usb or bluetooth. Thanks!

Go and purchase maptool Pro, it now supports external bluetooth GPS,

    edit:
The author has stated that he IS working on the HD touchpad version and there will be no reason for a rebuy, so you can pay the $1.99 now and get a free update to the HD TP

I have confirmed that is works with both of my Gsat BT359

Thanks for sharing it. I installed the app, downloaded the map and put to the map folder, but it seems I can't select my town in the menu. Any idea? Thanks

If, say, I download 2 different maps, say NorthAmerica and BeneluxWesternEurope can I name them something else other than "planet" in the MAPS folder on the fone? And, thank you for a great WIKI !! My Pre3 was in the midst of downloading a map when it hung and now the Navit Maps utility doesn't show any maps list at all ..completely blank after uninstall including dependencies, reboot, and reinstall several times including Emergency Restoration Utility usage.
