Mobile Hotspot on a Sprint Pre

All the directions and necessary files are here

Step 1: Download the Patched Mobile Hotspot IPK and freeTetherD service
(thank estockda here for the patched IPK)
    Code:

    http://rapidshare.com/files/38135723...dy_patched.ipk

    http://rapidshare.com/files/38135727....0.3_armv7.ipk

Step 2: Install both IPKs with WebOS Quick Install
NOTE: If you do not have the Package Manager Service installed on your Pre, the freeTetherD service will not install correctly

Step 3: Open the Mobile Hotspot app, change the settings as you wish, and enable the mobile hotspot

IMPORTANT NOTE: The second IPK in this post that you download is NOT an application, it is a service. Do not expect it to show up in your launcher. After installing both IPKs with WebOS Quick Install, the Mobile Hotspot app should just work.

After connecting a device to the Mobile Hotspot app, if your data connection goes out and doesn't come back after a minute or two, try opening the phone app, going to preferences, and toggling the Data Connection preference to off, then back on. That usually helps.

Strange I haven't run into anything like that but try opening the phone app, going to preferences, and toggling the Data Connection preference to off, then back on. That usually helps.

Mobile hotspot is definitely the better app but if it's not working for you definitely give mytether a try

I had this running with 1.3.5 or whatever it was when the MHS first came out. Of course with the the 1.4 update it disabled. Now that it is working again with 1.4.1 I found that if I had Bluetooth on I would get that same error. Once I turned BT off it worked with no problem. Now I go to work and just mess with fellow employees. I have them look for wi-fi hotspots and they find my Pre. It sorta freaks them out.

Same error happens with my Sprint Pre, but I just click ok and everything works great! Kinda concerned that it would somehow affect my unlimited data $, but hasn't. Taking a trip next week and will give it a work out. Someone mentioned turning off BT corrects the problem so I'll try that, as well.

Great advice! Wonder how fast everyone is getting and does Sprint charge for overages.

do you guys know if this app messes with windows 7 ability to connect with the pre via usb? cuz i was having some problems connecting with QI after i installed mytether, the tether worked completely using bluetooth and usb but i noticed i couldnt get QI to recognize the pre so i ended up deleting the app and service...

does not mess with anything on Windows. You might want to check your WOSQI install and reboot or ReLuna your phone.

If you upgrade to the new Mobile Hotspot 1.1.4 and install Freetether you will not have the "3G disabling itself" issue.
